Arrives with an impressive perky brightness before settling into a complexity that belies its youth. Cool climate characteristics take centre stage, a strong Adelaide Hills theme with this maker, with a lively acid drive and a citrus-strong fruit presence. Spring florals, lemon, grapefruit, pith and peel, white peach, lemon balm with a cashew nuttiness and almond meal. Palate glides on ripe fruits with a gentle grip and some smart oak handling on show. Combines freshness and a growing complexity. Drink: 2026-2032

‘Complex and enticing, the bouquet reveals ripe apricot, rockmelon, grapefruit, nougat, and almond meal nuances. It's wonderfully weighted and finely textured on the palate, displaying a creamy mouthfeel and beautifully infused acidity. Splendidly structured and balanced with a persistent, engaging finish. At its best: 2027 to 2037.’

Tasted beside its Seed Chardonnay sibling, the serious step up in sophistication is obvious with this Lambrook Plant Chardonnay.
Whole bunched pressed, the oak treatment hits another gear here too. Concentrated white fleshed nectarines, old school lemonade and figs make their presence known. Wafer biscuits, ribbons of cream and vanilla plus sheets of fine spices combine to build layers of interest. The faintest whiff of oyster shell rises up with time in the glass as do some butterscotch nuances. Still young, there is a tension which I find alluring and I can't help but wonder where this will go with some more bottle age. If you like your Chardonnays with a little extra oomph, this is worth noting in your black book.

’A lovely rich, rounded, somewhat old-fashioned chardonnay, which is nevertheless youthful and bright. Smoky sulphide, creamy/buttery lees, and roast hazelnut aromas. The flavour is ample, rounded, soft and lingering. Very good value.’
